Taj Mahal: Those of you who have read patiently, scrolling down only to know about the pride of India, here it is. TajMahal is one of the seven wonders of the world and also a UNESCO Heritage Site. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his favourite wife MumtazMahal. The TajMahal complex is built on the south bank of Yamuna and it can also be observed from the Agra Fort. This massive building of historical importance took 22 years to completion. Designed by the Persian architect, it was perfectly executed by the 20,000 best labourers hired from all the corners of the world. The Makrana marble structure rests on a massive marble platform built on a sandstone one. The walls have been inscribed with verses of the holy Quran and decorated with the fine inlay works beautified by the semi precious stones.
Agra Fort: Famously called the Red Fort of Agra, this fort-cum-palace is a World Heritage Site on the UNESCO list. The fort was renovated by Akbar in 1565. Later, his grandson, Shah Jahan turned it into the Mughal palace. One can see the Mughal craftsmanship with red sandstone and marble, decorated beautifully by the pietradura inlay. The biggest attractions waiting for you within the premises are the Moti Masjid, Diwan-e-Aam and Diwan-e-Khaas.
Sikandra: The resting place of the third Mughal emperor in India, Akbar the Great, is just 13 kilometers away from Agra Fort. The Mughal emperor had himself planned his mausoleum and the site of construction. The construction was completed by the his elder son and his heir to the throne, Jahangir in 1613 AD.
Fatehpur Sikri: The capital of the Mughal emperor Akbar for a duration of 14 years, derives its name from a small village Sikri. The land also marks the victory of Babar over RanaSanga. The Sikripremises has the mausoleum of Sheikh SalimChisti. Most of the locales believe hat the Chisti lineage still lives in the premises. The beautifully designed Fatehpur has many attractions like the PanchMahal, AnoopTalao platform, Diwan-e-khas, Diwan-e-aam, IbadatKhana, Birbal's house and BulandDarwaza.
I'timad- ud- Daulah: Built by the Mughal Empress Noor Jahan, is the tomb of her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg, also a chief minister in Jahangirs court. The tomb has some spectacular artwork in terms of inlay designs and construction. One can see the extensive Marble use in the complex, which was replicated in the construction of Taj Mahal.
Mankameshwar Temple: Located on one of the corners of Agra, the temple provides a perfect example of religious confluence. Only a few kilometres away from the Jama Masjid, this ancient temple is one of the four worship places dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Ram Bagh: One of the oldest Mughal gardens in India, was built by Babar in 1528AD on the bank of Yamuna. Previously, the garden was known as Aram Bagh, as the Mughal emperor used to relax in the garden during his leisure time.
Dayal Bagh: The area is the spiritual centre of Agra. Here the followers of the Radha Swami religion have preserved the holy ashes of the founder of the faith. The marvel of sculpting lies on the walls of the marble building. The lively marble carvings on the wall are inspired by the nature. The temple is under construction for more than 100 years.
